What an amazingly creepy place. I hope to never stumble into it by mistake...

I think it would be a creepy place to be alone at night.
Here's what I'm thinking... Evan Stroud is Everyman, looking into that dark glass, hoping to see clearly. The light is across the murk of the primordial river, so close but so far. crob -- wow. thank you!! there are so many underlying themes in this book that have little to do with what's happening on the surface. but i didn't know if that was all in my head rather than on the page -- or under the page.
I like how this is building like a twisted family album. It's breathing life in the world we'll be soon visiting.
